Which LED specifications should a supplier put in writing?
Efficacy test conditions, IP rating, driver headroom, the basis of the lifetime projection, inrush current, warranty scope and who signs the compliance documents — these seven belong in writing before price is discussed.
1. Efficacy and IP: under what conditions
Two honest suppliers can quote the same 150 W high bay at 120 lm/W and 165 lm/W, because drive current, CCT and test ambient differ.
Ask for efficacy at your actual drive current and at 40–50 °C ambient, together with the matching LM-79 report number.
The second IP digit covers four different tests rather than four grades: IP69K resists washdown but says nothing about corrosion, so coastal sites need salt-spray hours instead.
2. Driver headroom, lifetime basis and inrush
A 150 W luminaire may run a 150 W driver at full load or a 200 W driver at seventy percent, and the two do not last the same, so ask for the measured Tc point and the capacitor temperature rating.
A 50,000-hour figure has to be a TM-21 projection from LM-80 data, and it only applies if the drive current behind that projection matches what is shipped.
When several luminaires share a circuit, their inrush spikes add up at switch-on and can exceed the instantaneous trip of a breaker sized for running current.
Xingguang gives per-driver inrush amplitude and duration at quotation stage so the breaker curve can be checked before the order is placed.
3. Warranty scope and compliance documents
A five-year warranty needs three clarifications: whether it covers the whole luminaire or only the driver, who pays freight both ways, and whether failure means dead, flickering or below a stated lumen percentage.
A test report and a declaration of conformity are different documents, an accredited lab report is evidence and does not cover models it does not name, and a model mismatch is the most common documentation failure at customs.
Where SABER applies, we can assist in providing the required documents, subject to local customs review.
